The Duncombe Arms

Last week Waresley said goodbye to Chris and Kay Watson. When they took over the Duncombe Arms in 2011 it was not in a good state. The previous landlord had earned a reputation for, shall we say questionable, hospitality and most of the village didn’t go to the pub. There was almost no passing trade and in most evenings the place was virtually empty.  Chris and Kay set about restoring the DA to its former glory and persuaded Green King to refurbish the pub, extending the bar and generally redecorating and improving the feel of the place. An extensive menu and good friendly service finished the job. Now they have gone to do the same at the Wheatsheaf  in Perry at Grafham Water. We wish them every success. The Duncombe Arms’ new landlords, Inga and Tom, have not yet been seen as the pub failed to open on Monday as scheduled, due to “technical difficulties”.  It should open later today (Tuesday) so I  will report back to you once I have sampled the new menu and the new landlords. (I assume the beer will be the same!! )
