The New A428….an update.

Hello again…….

I was going to give you a lengthy update on the current state of the new A428 but as quite a lot of time as elapsed since my last post on this issue, (please see previous posts) there seems a little point. Most of you can see the current state of affairs simply by driving up the road. I will put a link later in this post to the National Highways website so you can get a more official picture of how they are getting on. Progress so far has been fairly swift, particularly in view of the weather, and the road looks as though it will be pretty good once it’s finished; although there will of course be considerable disruption in the meantime.

This is particularly true for Waresley as the road through the village, down through to Biggleswade, is being used as a cut-through, rat-run to the A1 to avoid the Black Cat Roundabout, which currently is a pretty good representation of chaos! There are major hold-ups at this roundabout, particularly on the northbound traffic. Southbound doesn’t seem too bad.

Eltisley is currently suffering as well, as there is no through-route onto the A428 through the village. Residents have to leave via the tricky junction at the top of the B1040. There were 2 or 3 nasty accidents here, including at least one fatality, I believe, until they put a 40mph average speed limit on the whole section.

It seems that this new road is going to be known as the A421, so that the old road, which is going to be mostly left, will be the A428. This means that you will be able to drive from Milton Keynes to Cambridge on the A421 as a dual carriageway for the whole journey. I think most will agree that this can only be a good thing. If not then let me know!!!!
