A428 – more news? Well not really!

The following is a Progress Report on the current status of the A428 Upgrade project. It is taken from part of the Highways England website:

From 6 March to 23 April 2017, we consulted on proposals to provide a dual carriageway on the A428 between Black Cat roundabout and Caxton Gibbet and to improve the Black Cat roundabout. This consultation was to seek your views on a range of route and junction options at an early stage of scheme development. Since the consultation, we have continued to develop the scheme by incorporating your feedback and carrying out technical assessments and surveys. We have also recognised the need to better understand the direction and incorporate potential changes from the A1 East of England Strategic Study.

This will require further analysis to fully understand the implications for the A428 scheme. This means that the preferred route announcement has not been possible in autumn 2017. We recognise that this delay may be frustrating, however it is important that the scheme meets the long term needs of local communities and road users throughout the region. We will update you on our progress and next steps early in the new year and share as much detail as possible.

Our engagement with all affected landowners and stakeholders is ongoing and we will hold a further formal consultation following the announcement of the preferred route. This will give you another opportunity to share your views and continue to help shape the scheme.

What next? We will continue with surveys for sections of the scheme that are common to all route options between now and January 2018.

This all means that they have deferred any decision until some time in 2018. They have given an outline timeline for the decision making process but it is meaningless as the dates given are all just “2018”

….don’t hold your breath!!!
