Lunch at the Duncombe Arms

Well, here I am sitting in the bar in the Duncombe Arms, Waresley, having just ordered my lunch and a pint of London Pride. Not the chilled, gassed version, but the cellar temperature, hand-pumped version. Much the best one: although not as good as the Turpin’s Dragon’s Den Golden Ale that was being served last week!

My lunch is an egg mayonnaise sandwich. This was on white bread (my choice) and came with a bowl of tasty crisps and a small mixed salad. The sandwich was well filled with the egg mayo and seasoned well with a nice touch of black pepper. Neatly wrapped cutlery and napkin completed things. Service was friendly and prompt, even though the staff on duty today are new.

It’s 2.25pm on Tuesday lunchtime and, while the restaurant area is empty, that is not unexpected at this time of the week. The bar area is half full which is not bad at all.

All in all, this was an excellent, tasty and quick lunch; total cost £10.85, which is OK. Not cheap but not expensive.
