Monday 10th July – Walking down the Byway (a.k.a. Green Lane) there were loads of butterflies enjoying the nettles and thistles, including many Large Whites, Gatekeepers, Meadow Browns and, I think, a Comma. In the garden the same day there were just as many; the three above were joined by two Red Admirals, a Painted Lady (seems appropriate somehow!) and a couple of Small Tortoiseshells.
Walking on from Green Lane across the B1040 and up towards the woods and beyond to Browne’s Piece, there were quite a few Marbled Whites (see below) flitting around. This is one of the few places in Cambridgeshire where you can see this delightful butterfly.
